Violet’s Victory
Violet’s Victory is an autobiographical picture book about a young girl with lavender hair.
Sports Day is approaching, and Violet dreams of keeping up with her friends in a track and field race, despite her need to use forearm crutches. She then discovers a purple handcycle. Will Violet be victorious? This book not only teaches about adaptive equipment, it also exemplifies perseverance and the kindness involved in accommodating all our friends with different needs.
About the Author
As part of our Building Bridges Week celebration, Valerie Goldstein, author of Violet’s Victory is returning to Murray Avenue School. Valerie is a writer, social worker, wife, and mother of three children. In the year 2000, Valerie was a passenger in a motor vehicle accident, leaving her an incomplete quadriplegic. On Friday, October 17, Valerie will meet our students and share her book, Violet’s Victory. Valerie will talk about adaptive equipment and explain that even though some people may do things differently, they enjoy the same things but in a different way. Families have the opportunity to purchase an autographed copy of Valerie’s book. Orders will be accepted through Thursday 10/16, and Valerie will bring the books to Murray on the day of her assembly.
